What is Be the Change New England?
Welcome to the Be the Change New England Blog!
Be the Change New England is a gathering of youth groups and young adults to recognize Martin Luther King weekend, and the upcoming presidential inauguration in a new way. We will be learning about doing social justice and bringing about change in New England. We will help bring some change by doing acts of service in the Portland area. We will worship together, and we will stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in poverty.
Be the Change New England is a local response to the national Be the Change gathering in Washington DC organized by the Baltimore Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church. Churches around DC are opening their doors during inauguration week in an expression of hospitality, service, and hope to engage the hearts and minds of visitors to the capitol. Some of us in New England can't make it to DC so we decided to hold and event of our own. Check out bethechangeyouwanttosee.org to see what is happening in DC. If you can't travel so far, then come join us in Portland ME!
This blog will be regularly updated as plans come together to for Be the Change NE!
